Cape Verde island hopping gets easier

Published by admin on July 25, 2008 under Uncategorized

Tourism is growing so fast in the Cape Verde islands that the tourism industry has decided to help itself by forming a new airline. Halcyonair-Cabo Verde Airways , now has its air operators certificate and is taxiing ready for take off.

Tourist companies could see the need for 10 more international flights and 30 inter island jaunts, so they set about forming the new company, with headquarters on Sal island. The new initiative will strengthen ties between islands and to the Africa coast. This adds to the existing 2 local air companies, TACV, the state owned company, and Cabo Verde Expresso.

If you want a more leisurely way of travelling between the Cape Verde islands, you can look forward to a new ferry service, due to start in late 2009. Three ferries are being introduced at a cost of 20 million euros, they will carry 102 passengers, 16 small trucks and 2 large trucks. The service will link up Brava, Fogo, Santiago and Maio, with crossing times of 20 minutes betwwen Bravo and Fogo, and 3 hours between Bravo and Praia.
